MOTIVATIONS
Why virtual reality?
Virtual reality is a medium which is expanding in the industry every year. I thought it would be a great opportunity to improve as a virtual reality programmer and this is why I decided to select this medium for this project.
Why a language learning game ?
The main rule to follow was to implement a certain type of interaction that was never implemented before. This is why I decided to use the Leap Motion device. It allows to track the player's hand while he plays. And to implement the main functionnalities of the leap motion such as grabbing and releasing object, i thought that a language learning game would be great.
In fact, in order to practice and learn new words, the player will have to grab and release cubes which correspond to a word that they think is the correct traduction of the asked word.
Why a language learning game in VR?
As said previously, VR is expanding every year so it is important to be knowledgeable in this field as a game programmer. Also, being able to learn english while being at the center of the action allows to learn better and remember better as well. So creating a VR game where you can learn new words made sense to me.

Learning french words
The main objective of this game is to learn new french words. The player is immerged in a classroom environment and can hear and read new words on a board, with their translation in french. Then he can move to a 'practice desk' where he will have to grab a cube with a corresponding word in french that he thinks is the proper translation of the english word displayed.
Be interactive
The second objective of this game is to be as interactive as possible for the player. And the best two functionnalities that allow to make the game more interactive is the fact that:
- The user doesn't need controllers, he needs to use his own hands in order to progress in the game.
- The user is immerged in the game thanks to the VR headset.
Those two functionnalities allow the player to not just be a spectator of the game but be the main actor.
Challenge player's memory
When practicing, once he completes two new words, the player can move on to the next two. And once he practices again, the player will have to guess again the first words before guessing the newest words. This allows to keep the player engaged and allow him to work on his memory.

DELIVERABLES
For this project, a windows build is available for test but you will need to be equiped with an HTC vive or vive pro and the Leap Motion device.
